“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.”
— Albert Einstein
I have long been convinced that education is not merely about gaining knowledge, but developing the capacity to think critically, to adapt confidently and to lead responsibly. I’m Asif Rampurawala, Vice Principal and Head Department of IT and Data Science with Vidyalankar School of Information Technology (VSIT). Having spent more than two decades in the world of higher education, I’ve spent my working life committed to effecting significant academic change.
My foundational education took place at the University of Mumbai, where I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science. Ever since, my work has been steered by an abiding interest in curriculum transformation, education innovation, and improvement in quality institutions. At VSIT, I’ve championed numerous initiatives under the framework of NEP 2020 and designed outcome-focused and industry-centric programs, and instituted leading-edge labs in AI/ML, Data Science, and Software Development — all with the aim to prepare students to meet the needs of an increasingly dynamic tech-enabled world.
I also pride myself on spearheading VSIT’s global academic outreach initiatives and forging strategic collaborations with the world’s leading international universities in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. These collaborations opened avenues for student mobility, academic exchanges, and global pathway programs enhancing the study environment within VSIT.
I strongly believe in collaborative leadership. My regular weekly strategic review with program heads and faculty members ensures we are on track towards our goals and are nimble in an ever-evolving education environment. As an educator, mentor, and policy advocate, I delight in creating learning environments that are inclusive and forward-thinking and are rooted in ethics. My ambition is straightforward: to equip students and teachers to think critically, act effectively, and innovate sustainably — because that’s the type of education that will endure.
